Becoming Us™

Nest building classes

But preparing for life as parents is something else.

Nest Building helps you understand and navigate the changes a baby can bring to you, your partner and your relationship.

Preparing physically for a baby is one thing.

We spend a lot of time preparing for the baby

There are birthing classes, breastfeeding classes, appointments and plenty of advice about what to expect physically. There is a lot to learn about labour and birth, feeding, sleeping and caring for a newborn.

But there is much less conversation about what happens to you when you become a parent, or what happens to your relationship when you become a family.

Becoming a parent can change how you see yourself, how you see your partner and how you relate to each other. Even when becoming parents is something you've both wanted and looked forward to, the transition can bring changes you weren't expecting.

There are things we don’t
always expect

Often, it's the things no one really talks about.

Being exhausted and having less patience with each other. Discovering you have different ideas about parenting. Trying to work out who does what and wondering why you seem to be carrying more of the load. Having less time together and finding that intimacy and connection have changed.

You might miss parts of your old life or wonder where you fit now that so much revolves around your baby. Your partner may be adjusting in their own way too.

These can all be part of the adjustment to becoming parents.

Knowing that these changes can happen can help you understand
what's going on, talk about it together and find ways to stay connected
as you become a family.

So, what is
Nest Building?

Becoming Us™ is a relationship-focused parenting program designed to help couples prepare for and navigate the transition to parenthood.

Nest Building is the Becoming Us™ class for expecting and new parents. Rather than focusing on how to care for your baby, it focuses on you as you become parents: the changes happening individually, between you as a couple and as you learn to parent together.

The aim isn't to prepare you for every possible challenge. It's to help you understand some of the changes that can come with becoming parents, start important conversations before you're trying to have them in the thick of it while sleep deprived, and give you practical ways to navigate those changes together.

Stress, communication and conflict

including what can happen when you're both tired, stretched or running low on capacity, and ways to navigate those moments together.

Nest Building gives you the chance to think and talk about some of the changes that can easily get overlooked before your baby arrives.

The goal isn't for you to agree on everything or have it all worked out before your baby arrives. It's to start talking about these things now, understand each other a little better and have some tools to come back to when you need them.
